Improv

November 18th, 2008 Posted in Training Runs

After work, I set the Gone Running sign and went out for a run. Does anyone else use this? I like to let my wife know when I’ll be back.

With speed work on the training schedule and the high school track in darkness, I had to improvise. I mapped out a place where I could run my 5 x 1000 meters. I chose a relatively flat path near the local grocery store. It was much tougher than the track. My target pace was 4:10 with 1:30 rest intervals. My splits were 4:06, 4:06, 4:09, 4:06 & 4:05 — 20:32 for the 5K. The 1:30 rest intervals really helped. Since it was dark and there were no mileage markers I had no idea how fast I was going until the end of each sprint.

man i need a sign like this. i am always being asked when i’ll be back, so it would be handy, and this sign is just plain cool.

sometimes i do 800 repeats on a mostly flat street so i know the feeling on being unsure about your pace. it can be good and bad depending on where you are mentally for the day (for me anyway). great job on your repeats, especially since you couldn’t check up on your pace!

I’ve seen that sign somewhere before. It’s cute!

You’re super-speedy Mr. Even if you are a Michigan fan. Sigh.

Nice even splits! I never really tell my wife when I will return. We have the system that if I’m going to be gone for more then an hour I have my cell with me and she can call if she is wanting an ETA

Love the sign! We should get one for our house so we don’t need to keep using scraps of better that get misplaced easily.

    Excellent (speedy!) run.
