Runner’s Choice #3 – Run without a watch on an unfamiliar route

November 19th, 2008 Posted in Runner's choice, Training Runs

The top vote tally for the latest poll (where to run if I want to be out of my element) was “Run without a watch on an unfamiliar route” (10 votes, 63%). I’ve run most of my neighborhood so at lunch today I drove to Allentown, New Jersey for something new. It’s only a 10 minute drive, but I’ve never been there before. I parked my car in a municipal lot and set out on run (without a watch and no route in mind). The temperature was in the 30s and it was a bright sunny day. I made a lot of turns and crisscrossed town. It was refreshing to run at an easy pace with no plan in mind. I enjoyed the run immensely. Thanks for voting.

Now, after the run, did you drive your route to see your mileage?
And could you tell what time you ran, by using a sundial?

Whoa – that was like an Allentown advertisement. Is the town really that picturesque or was that you?

Awesome pics as usual. Glad to hear it was a good run too!

Ahhh… its near Manasquan. There is a terrific running trail called “Capitol Trail” near downtown Manasquan and it goes right up to Allentown. GREAT pictures !!!

Wow! Those picture are amazing! Good idea, and you certainly are brave to run a new route with no watch and no route. :)

Running around Mill pond and Heritage Park looks like it would be great.

Great idea to take the camera along. It looks like a quaint little place, something to add every once in a while for a change.
