Kicked

October 29th, 2009 Posted in Training Runs

I’ve been attending training remotely this week from home. It has been perfect for my taper. I get to sleep in and wear comfy clothes all day. I went for a run today after training ended. It was nice change from the last few days where I have jumped right into checking work email and taking care of work issues for a couple of hours.

On the schedule was 6 mile run. Two miles easy. Three miles at short tempo pace. One mile easy. The easy miles were, ah, easy. The three mile tempo run at a 7:08 pace was a challenge. It was a kick to the head. My lungs were screaming. The little devil on my right shoulder kept telling me to stop and take a short break. The little turtle on my left shoulder reminded me that it was only three miles and that I would feel better about it if I just stuck it out.

My first mile (7:10) was into the wind. My second mile (7:08) wasn’t too bad. For the last mile, I stopped looking at the watch and kicked it into gear (7:05). My overall time was 21:24 which was exactly a 7:08 pace. The little turtle on my shoulder was right. I feel really good that I ran the entire 3 miles and finished exactly on pace. I’m mostly over my sinus infection. I feel pretty good.

Another run tomorrow and then 10 miles with Flyers26 on Sunday at marathon pace.
