8 days to go

October 31st, 2009 Posted in Training Runs

Ran three miles this morning at marathon pace. It was partly cloudy and 64 degrees. The current forecast for Harrisburg on race day is Ice changing to rain; colder. At race start 31 degrees, real feel 18 degrees. Winds from the WNW at 13.

Taper madness, sadness, badness, what-have-you is creeping in. I should stop looking at the marathon forum threads and race predictors. I’m definitely having some doubts about this whole marathon thing.

Thanks for the comments.

What’s to doubt? You’ve been running so strong.

Do get off-line though. The forums are enough to make anyone second-guess the best training cycle.

Plus then maybe you’ll stop shopping :)

Ah, the taper madness. There really is no getting around it, is there? Try not to worry about the things you can’t control (weather) – but you’ve heard that before!

Are you serious? The weather is going to change that drastically?? You can handle that! No big deal.

Trust your training. Trust yourself. Enjoy all of the taper craziness. Oh, and write it all down, all the stupid, insignificant stuff. You’ll be grateful to have it to look back on. I actually just started a 21 days log and will go in and log everything for the next 21 days before my marathon. Little things like how much sleep I got, how I was feeling both physically and emotionally, eating habits, etc. I’m hoping it will help me after the race.

For me, the marathon is all about the journey, and little to do with the destination. You have already achieved greatness (including a 20 with yours truly). Just relax and enjoy Harrisburg.
