This is not that

Election day is a state holiday in New Jersey. My wife started a new job recently so I drove up this afternoon to see where she works. On the way back home, I wanted to stop at the Road Runner Sports store in North Brunswick. I had a general idea of where it was located, but I typed it into our Garmin GPS unit and saw that it was just 15 minutes away. I followed the directions and found myself going a different route. That’s okay, I thought to myself, our GPS knows where it is going. When I arrived at Road Runners, I realized that I once again fell victim to technology.

For the record, if you’re looking for Road Runner Sports in North Jersey, don’t be fooled…

This

is not

I turned around and headed in the opposite direction. Eventually, I found my way to the correct store and bought some Sports Beans and body glide for the race this weekend. My side trip to the auto parts store added an extra 14 miles.

During my last two races, LBI 18 mile run and Newport Liberty half marathon, I had planned on using my Garmin Forerunner 205 to help pace me. Early in both races, I managed to mess things up enough that I stopped paying attention to the Garmin and just ran. Technology can be a good tool, but sometimes it’s best to trust your own instincts.
