Spring Classic 5K XC Race Series

May 19th, 2010 Posted in Running Races, Trails

Tonight, I participated in a cross-country 5K put on by the Princeton Athletic Club. There are 3 Wednesday night races in the Spring Classic 5K Cross-Country Race Series. This was race #1.

The race was a blast. There were only 35 or so runners. Since I’m running all 3 races in the series, my pre-race strategy was to run tonight’s run as a practice run. I figured that I could get the lay of the land and then run the next two races consecutively faster. The starting line was in a field and everyone just took off at the start. Any idea about taking it easy went out the window. I ran hard the whole way. As usual, my favorite part of the trail run was the puddles and the mud. My splits were roughly 7:29, 7:59, 7:18 and 57 seconds. I finished 12th overall. Coincidentally, my pace was just about the same as the Super Hero Half Marathon Relay that I ran a couple of days ago. The race was low key and no frills. They gave out plants as awards. Everybody was very nice. I liked the atmosphere. I’m looking forward to next week’s race.

There’s still time to sign up. You can find more info on the Princeton Athletic Club’s web site.

Great job! Not sure how the weather was in your neck of the woods but here in Allentown it was a perfect night. I’m doing my running club’s Wed night 5k race series, too. It’s so tricky getting a good race in with the time of day and summer weather that will move in soon.

A cross country race sounds like fun. Plants as awards is a neat idea.
