Origins

One of the things that I did during my recent period of non-running was buy a basketball. I’d discovered a park with a basketball court near my house. I’ve shot baskets there a couple of times and I’ve had the court all to myself each time. When I was in high school and college, I would shoot baskets for hours on end in the Summer time.

I went to the park today to shoot baskets after work. On the way there, I was thinking that I originally started running in college as a way to improve my fitness for basketball. I discovered that I liked running better than basketball so I stopped playing.

Now that I’m older and wiser, I know that there is room for both. I’m going to try to mix in some basketball on my non-running days. For now, I prefer shooting on my own rather than playing a game with a bunch of young whippersnappers. Running around the court, shooting basket after basket reminds me of my younger days and I feel really old when I stop to think that I was doing the same thing 20+ years ago.

You forgot to mention about making basketball music videos! :)

I recently started playing squash again (which I played in college – I also used to run for training for that). My biggest fear though is twisting some body part! IT seems so much more likely on a court!

Look at that young turtle flying through the air!

Good to find your roots again.

I can’t say I have any similar story; except that I started a cross country club at my all boys high school when I realized there was an all girls school just seven miles away.
