Heated

July 8th, 2010 Posted in Training Runs

I took a break from running outside during the last few days of 100 degree temperatures. Tonight I ventured out and ran a four mile route that I ran frequently in the winter. It was 80+ degrees at 9pm when I left. There were no sledders. I didn’t slip on the ice. I didn’t bundle up in multiple layers. My water bottle didn’t freeze. All of these things are good, yes, but I miss the cold weather runs. I’ve been thinking of joining a gym to escape the heat, which seems funny to me. I’ll run outside when it is 10 degrees, but I can’t take 90 degrees. I’ve been thinking recently that the Chicago 2007 marathon somehow broke me. I have no desire to run when the temperature rises. It’s not fun for me. I don’t enjoy it. I’ll try to mix in some early morning runs and/or evening runs to get a break from the heat.

different strokes i guess. personally i’d rather have hot than cold! well, if i really got to choose… i’d take 55* with a light breeze :)

I’m completely in agreement with you. I start feeling like a complete running failure when the temps rise. As much as I dislike cold weather, give me a nice freezing day to run in anytime vs. anything over 70 degrees. Weird, I know… Unfortunately, I hate treadmill running, so I’m stuck with outside no matter what the temps. Good luck!
