Spooky Tails & Trails 5K – Hamilton, New Jersey

October 28th, 2007 Posted in Running Races

This morning, I ran the 3rd Annual Spooky Tails & Trails 5K at Veterans Park. When I heard that the Spooky Tails & Trails race was 2 miles from my house and it had a 10:30am start time, I decided to register.

There was a 2 mile fitness/pet walk and a 5K. The race flyer mentioned that costumes were encouraged, so I decided to wear my Vampire Pilot costume for the race. I got to the park and realized that I had left my vampire teeth on the kitchen table. Drats. What’s a vampire without teeth? So–I drove home, picked up my teeth and went back to the race. There was only a handful of people in costume, but there was a good turnout for a small local race. The volunteers were nice and there was a good post race spread.

I finished 11th overall and 2nd in my age group with a time of 22:56. I also won a $25 Applebee’s gift certificate for “most original” costume. I just checked my past race stats. Today’s time was 10 seconds slower than my last halloween race when I was Clark Kent, which makes sense. Clark Kent is the man of steel. Plus, the race was held during the day and everyone knows that vampires don’t like sunlight.

You are right! It’s because you were a vampire, the sun slowed you down! Clark Kent could get anywhere in superspeed… so maybe that’s a costume for next year again. Although, you might not get another $25 for Applebees. Decisions, Decisions!

Cool! Running in pants must be a challenge.

Do you always choose flying themed costumes?

Love your pics! I ran that race at 23:50 in the 50-60 category. Was thrilled they put me in 1st for an age group 10 years younger :}, when I was actually 2nd in my age group! Gave back my trophy, thanked them for the compliment,…still waiting for replacement 2nd place (I think I have to go to CYO to pick up. My daughter placed 1st in her age group & my other daughter would have placed 1st if she wasn’t getting over the flu…so she walked the dog instead.
The marking were alot better this year.
Anyone running the Hamilton hangover 5 mile today?
