Hair of the Dog 5K — East Windsor, NJ
May 18th, 2008 Posted in Running RacesThe Hair of the Dog 5K was this morning at the Silver Decoy Winery in East Windsor, New Jersey. It was a short drive from our house. To be honest, I didn’t realize that there was a winery so close until I heard about the 5K. The race benefited local animal rescues. There was a great turnout for the inaugural event.
The dogs were well behaved (they even added accompaniment to the national anthem). I didn’t mind the pack of runners during the first mile or the slower pace. I almost fell flat on my face around mile 1 when a dog ran up behind and got caught in my legs, though it wasn’t the dog’s fault.
I ran into our friend John before the race. I also ran into someone from the Twin Rivers group. John helped pull me along during the race. The race ended on Broadway–the grass road in the heart of the vineyard. I’ve never finished a race like that before. I was hoping for 23 or 24 minutes which is what I did. We had good weather–60s and mostly sunny. It has rained the rest of the day. I’m glad that we got it in this morning.
Kudos to Redhead fangirl for taking photos. I’m glad that she was there to cheer the runners on. Here are the race results
